THE QRR PROCESS
The QRR process begins with quartz and clean coal, which are placed into the PUREVAP™ Quartz Reduction Redactor, and, after a short duration, are transformed into high-purity silicon ready for diverse markets. This single-step manufacturing process requires a total of 13,000 kWh of energy — well under what other methods on the market need.
The QRR’s competitive edge lies in its simplicity, as it cuts out many of the inefficient, time-consuming, and polluting steps required by conventional silicon manufacturing techniques.
Adding high-purity silicon to aluminum metal improves its strength and malleability, in addition to making the material lighter. These characteristics make aluminum-silicon metal perfect for the lucrative electric vehicle market, among others.
Reacting high-purity silicon with carbon and water produces silicones, which are synthetic polymers usually found in a rubber-like state. The material is ubiquitous in construction as a binder and in specialty coatings, lubricants, adhesives, and sealants, among other uses.
The QRR’s high-purity silicon acts as feedstock for solar technology and vastly reduces overall emissions from the solar manufacturing process.
