HPQ CEO Explains the Strategy Behind Novacium’s Letter of Intent with GH Technologies
In this interview, HPQ CEO Bernard Tourillon discussed the growing commercial momentum behind Novacium’s GEN4 silicon-anode battery platform following the signing of a Letter of Intent with GH Technologies at CIBF 2026.
The agreement is focused on evaluating commercial opportunities for GEN4 lithium-ion cells across Asia-Pacific markets, which account for the majority of global cylindrical battery demand.
During the interview, Tourillon explained that the strategy is not centered on pursuing a single large battery manufacturer at this stage. Instead, HPQ and Novacium are targeting smaller, more agile niche markets, including drone manufacturers, military applications, embedded systems, e-bikes, and specialized high-energy-density devices, where the performance advantages of GEN4 cells can provide immediate commercial value.
Tourillon also revealed that interest in the technology has accelerated significantly following the latest GEN4 results, with Novacium and HPQ having already signed approximately 10 NDAs with potential commercial groups evaluating the batteries and silicon-anode materials. He noted that discussions are underway with multiple parties across North America, Europe, and Asia, while a specialized laboratory focused on space applications has also requested battery samples for testing.
A major focus of the discussion was scalability. Tourillon explained that while battery assembly itself is relatively straightforward, the true bottleneck in the sector remains the ability to manufacture silicon-anode material economically and at scale. According to Tourillon, Novacium’s proprietary manufacturing approach is what positions the company differently within the market as demand for higher-performance lithium-ion batteries continues to grow globally.
